Switching from Digitail: A Step-by-Step Migration Guide
Switching practice management systems feels daunting. You've got years of client records, patient histories, product catalogues, and sales data in Digitail. The thought of starting from scratch is enough to keep anyone stuck on a system they've outgrown.
Here's the good news: you don't start from scratch. We import everything.

When you switch from Digitail to DigiVet, we transfer your complete dataset:
Clients & Patients
Every client record — names, contact details, addresses, email addresses — comes across. So do their patients, including species, breed, date of birth, microchip numbers, and any notes you've recorded.
Products & Services
Your entire product catalogue migrates with prices, categories, and descriptions. Services transfer too. Your team doesn't need to re-enter a single item.
Sales History
Historical invoices come across so you maintain a complete billing record. This means you can look up what Mrs Potgieter's Boerboel was charged for that ear treatment six months ago — even though that sale happened in Digitail.
Medical Records
Patient medical histories, including SOAP notes, diagnoses, observations, and treatment plans. Your clinical continuity is maintained.
Pricing & Categories
Product categories, markup percentages, and pricing structures transfer so your financial setup stays consistent.
How the Migration Works
Step 1: Export Your Data from Digitail
You can request a data export from Digitail that includes your clients, patients, products, services, sales history, and medical records. We'll guide you through the process.
Step 2: We Import Into DigiVet
We take your Digitail data export and map it into DigiVet's structure. Products link to categories, patients link to clients, sales link to line items. All relationships are preserved.
Step 3: You Verify
We give you access to review the imported data. Check a few clients, look up some patients, verify product prices. Everything should match what you had in Digitail.
Step 4: You Go Live
Once you're satisfied, you start using DigiVet for new work. Your historical data is there for reference, and new records build on top of it.
Timeline
Most migrations complete within 2-3 business days:
- Day 1: Export your data from Digitail (we guide you through this)
- Day 2: Import, mapping, and quality checks
- Day 3: Your team reviews and goes live
Larger practices with extensive histories may take an extra day, but you're never looking at weeks of downtime.
What About Ongoing Digitail Access?
We recommend keeping your Digitail account active for a transition period (usually a month) so you can cross-reference if needed. Once you're comfortable that everything is in DigiVet, you can cancel Digitail.

"Can we still access Digitail after switching?" You're welcome to keep your Digitail account active if you want to cross-reference older data, but it's not necessary — your historical records are all imported into DigiVet. Most practices switch over completely from day one.
"What does it cost?" The migration is included — there's no separate fee for importing your data. You pay for your DigiVet subscription, and we handle the move.
